Christmas Eve Candlelight Eucharist

“This year, it is especially important that we share this moment together…”

The season of Advent is a very important time of prayer and reflection for the people of St. Augustine’s and we have enjoyed a wonderful season of worship. Then, on December 24, the time of waiting is over and it is Christmas Eve – one of the most beautiful moments in the Christian calendar. We will reflect on the words of Isaiah 9: 2-7 that describes the darkness giving way to a great light: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” We will hear the story of the Holy Family described in the second chapter of Luke, and the Christ candle on the Advent wreath will be lit. Candlelight will illuminate the sanctuary as people light their own tapers, and glorious music will fill this sacred space.

This year, it is especially important that we share this moment together, even as the coronavirus continues to keep us apart. Please consider participating virtually, from your own home, on your computer or mobile device. At 6:45 PM mountain standard time on December 24, click this link. It will re-direct you to our Worship Services page where you will see instructions for connecting to our livestream broadcast. And then, from wherever you are in Lethbridge, nearby or around the world, you will join us in hearing the sacred words, praying the prayers and singing the ancient songs. It is Christmas!
