Worship with us

Each week we gather together in a sacred space set aside for worship. Aided by tried and true liturgies, we listen and speak to God and each other with words of comfort, challenge and hope. We invite you to experience the beauty found in the blend of scripture, sacrament and music. We currently offer four regular services each week along with special worship experiences throughout the year. Regular services include:

Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. – Morning Prayer in the Crypt

Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. – Holy Communion (BCP)

Sundays at 8:00 a.m. – Holy Communion (BCP)

Sundays at 10:00 a.m. – Holy Eucharist (livestreamed)

Learn with us

Our parish is fortunate to have a high degree of biblical, historical and theological expertise among our clergy and parishioners. Adults are invited to join lecture series and bible studies as they occur throughout the year. We also have a well-organized Sunday school department, many talented teachers and dedicated facilities to meet the Christian education needs of our children and young families. You’ll find information on all these things in the weekly Parish Pulse.

Our Elementary Sunday School program follows an engaging format that revolves around different stations, ensuring an interactive and fun learning experience. These stations include storytelling, crafts and games, each lasting approximately 20 minutes. Teachers use lesson plans that offer flexibility to adapt and customize their teaching approach.

On Sunday mornings our young people focus on one activity every week, rotating through various enriching experiences. Activities include bible study, sermon discussions, drama activities and assisting with the elementary games station.

Infants and toddlers enjoy a safe and nurturing environment during church services and events. The care and attention provided allows parents to participate fully in worship and activities, knowing their little ones are in good hands.

Every summer we offer a week of fun, learning and creativity to city children, aged preschool to grade 5. Adult and teen volunteers help children explore biblical themes, create lasting memories and nurture their faith through interactive activities and teachings. Children enjoy crafts, games, music, snacks, drama and more.

St. Augustine’s provides a welcoming and engaging youth program for those in grades 6-12. Bi-weekly gatherings offer a space for young people to connect through various activities and shared meals, fostering a strong sense of community. In addition to these regular meetings, Sunday Bible studies during the church service provide opportunities for spiritual growth. The program also emphasizes service, with volunteer opportunities both within the church and in the wider community. All young people are invited to participate in this supportive and enriching environment.

The rite of Confirmation is an opportunity for a baptized person to renew their baptismal vows and receive the “laying on of hands” by the Bishop, who prays for a strengthening of the Holy Spirit in the life of the confirmed person. Teen confirmation preparation classes are offered every year and involve weekly Christian education classes especially designed for young people – candidates can be Grade 7 and older. There is also a class each year for adults who may wish to be confirmed.

St. Augustine’s offers numerous opportunities for parishioners to find space for their questions, learn about the Bible and grow in their faith. Regular offerings include lecture series, bible studies, prayer groups and home groups. Information about current adult education opportunities can be found in our weekly Parish Pulse notices.

Serve alongside us

It’s been said that the best way to develop relationships is to work alongside other people. At St. Augustine’s there is no reason to sit on the sidelines when the joy of service comes in so many different forms. Below are some examples. If there’s something here that catches your eye, call the church office (403-327-3970) – we can connect you with the ministry leader in charge.

Coffee Hour volunteers set up and serve coffee and refreshments following the Sunday morning 10 a.m. service. Volunteers put the coffee on and set things out, then return after the service to serve and clean up. Most volunteers serve three or four times a year but we can work with any time commitment. Serving your fellow parishioners in this way is actually a lot of fun.

Volunteers work in partners to greet people who are new to the parish, provide them with a welcome gift and encourage them to join us for coffee. This is a great ministry for teens who would like to put their faith into practice, as they would be working with an adult partner.  You will likely be on duty once every two months, for about 20 minutes prior to the 10:00 a.m. service, as well as accompanying any newcomers who wish to go to coffee after the service.

Joining the Sanctuary Guild allows you to work with a small group, serve the Lord and have fun at the same time. Duties include: preparing the church for regular worship and other events such as funerals and weddings; rotating altar clothes and church banners according to liturgical seasons and special events; maintaining liturgical items such as flowers, candles, communion vessels/supplies and linens; or preserving wooden items in the chancel by oiling once a year. The Guild is divided into four groups so your commitment is required for a few hours only once a month.

Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who receive special training to provide one-to-one Christian care to people in our congregation who are experiencing grief, loneliness, divorce, hospitalization, disability, job loss and many other life difficulties.

The Finance committee is a somewhat behind the scenes group that meets to discuss financial decisions, make recommendations to Parish Council and run the annual stewardship campaign. Volunteer opportunities include Sides People who greet everyone as they come to church and distribute bulletins. They also count and log the number of people in church during the service, take the collection, keep things orderly during communion and, after the service, help count the collection.

Our church facilities consist of two large buildings connected by a main entrance structure which sits adjacent to a large courtyard that contains a third, smaller building. That works out of a lot of space to keep in good shape, so St. Augustine’s maintenance team is often in need of extra hands.

Our video volunteers work in teams of two to manage the livestreaming of our Sunday 10 AM services. No experience or prior knowledge is required, and training is provided. This can also be a great opportunity for teens who enjoy working with cameras and computers.

Similar to the video team, our audio volunteers manage sound levels within the worship space during Sunday 10 AM services and balance the audio of the livestream recording. These jobs require knowledge and careful attention to what’s happening during the service, so training is provided.

Make music with us

The music offered at St. Augustine’s is rich and diverse, and is an essential part of our worship. You can expect to hear a blend of ancient and modern styles which can include rich hymnody, contemporary praise songs, choral anthems, medieval and Taizé chants, world music and more. St. Augustine’s features several different ensembles and guest musicians throughout the year, including choirs, contemporary bands, handbells and soloists. During the fall and spring our Senior Choir meets Thursday evenings at 7:00 – consider joining today.

Fellowship with us

If we’re not singing, praying, working or otherwise meeting together, there’s always fruit bread. This treat is a staple of our after church Coffee Hour in the Crypt, and it’s well-attended by young and old. Another fellowship staple is the Harvest Dinner in October which never fails to draw a full house – everyone is welcome. Another annual highlight, although a little more exclusive, is the Seniors Christmas Party. But even if you’re not 65+ you can still volunteer and join in the fun.
